Akiva School spent the week getting ready for Rosh Ha-Shanah; apple picking, visiting the bees and their sweet honey, making shofars, and special prayers for the new year.

We are back at it!

Akiva School welcomed back our students and staff for another year of creative, hands-on learning!

After a successful year of creative learning, special community moments, and lots of smiles and laughter, our students celebrated the last day of school with a special end of school assembly, a DJ party in the playground, and refreshing freezies handed out by our amazing Akiva Life parent volunteers.

What a show! The Akiva Gym Show once again filled the gym with flips, dips, tumbles, and plenty of excitement as students in our gymnastics program from Grades 1–6 showcased their incredible talents. Akiva School is the only Jewish day school to have its own gymnastics program, but what makes the Akiva Gym Show truly special is the spirit behind it – the joy on our students’ faces, the older students helping the younger ones shine, and the Akiva alumni who return each year to help or, many now as parents, to cheer on the next generation.

This week, our Grade 5 students proudly presented their Mi-dor Le-dor (“From Generation to Generation”) projects to families. Through this meaningful exploration of family history, students researched and shared the stories behind treasured objects that have been passed down through generations. By interviewing family members and uncovering the memories, traditions, and experiences connected to these items, students gained a deeper appreciation for their heritage and the values that connect past, present, and future generations. The presentations were a celebration of family stories, personal identity, and the enduring power of tradition.

The week, Akiva families participated in the annual Akiva Art Fair organized by Akiva Life. Students created beautiful art to bring home while also helping to put together get well cards and art packages for sick children at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. The Art Fair highlighted well-known Jewish artists and artists with connections to Israel, including Chagall, Liechtenstein and more.

In the spirit of the holiday of Shavu’ot where we celebrate the giving of the Torah, our kindergarten students put on an amazing performance in their Life of Moses Play. Acting in three languages, singing and dancing their little hearts out, our students all shine bright in front of their parents, grandparents, and families.

From Aisles to Answers – Grade 3 Math Market Morning
Our grade 3 students got to show off their math skills to their parents at the Grade 3 Math Market morning. This interactive, grocery store-themed experience was designed to showcase how our Grade 3 students are developing and applying their math skills in meaningful ways. Throughout the event, students and their parents worked together to explore a variety of hands-on math stations focused on key Grade 3 concepts. The goal of the Math Market was to highlight that math is not just something we do on paper, it is part of everyday life. Kol Hakavod to our Grade 3 teaching team and students on a great morning of practicing math skills in a fun, engaging, and creative environment.
