Message from the President – April 2019

Aaron Akerman, President

The holiday of Passover is centred on the family or communal celebration of the Seder. Part of the beauty of the Seder is the way in which the older and younger generations come together as partners seated around the table to learn the story and lessons of Passover. Everybody has a voice at the Seder. The learning at the Seder reflects, in many ways, the incredible learning that takes place at Akiva School. Our community of students, parents, grandparents, teachers and administration are all part of creating the most enriching educational experience. Parent-driven programs, such as the Art Fair and the Akiva Play, mesh together with the innovative academic programming brought to us by our teachers to provide unique hands-on learning that can be found only at our school. Together, we keep our school vibrant and thriving as we teach our children about the value of community.

This year, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Akiva School, we can take pride in the role that we are all playing in making our school the special place that it is today. At Passover, we learn about our past in order to fortify our future. Similarly, today, with our Future50 Campaign, as we honour the history of Akiva, we are also working together to strengthen our future and shape the next 50 years of Jewish learning.

I wish you all a very Happy Passover.
