This week’s parashah describes the Israelites standing before Mount Sinai as they accept God’s Torah. As the ten commandments are read in synagogue this Shabbat, the congregation is asked to stand as did the Israelites in that awesome, powerful moment when God presented Himself to His people. The commandment for Shabbat appears two different ways in the Torah. In this week’s parashah the Israelites are commanded to “remember” the Sabbath because God rested on the seventh day when He created the world. In the book of Deuteronomy, they are commanded to “keep” Shabbat because God took them out of Egypt. In 2017, our reasons and ways for celebrating Shabbat in our homes are varied, but as one mom writes below, it offers a sense of freedom that, like Mount Sinai, can be awesome and powerful.
This week, I’d like share an article from Kveller on the beauty of Shabbat:

Wishing everyone a restful February break.
Shabbat Shalom.
