On Thursday, October 10th, Akiva participated in our first GMAA soccer game at Royal Vale school. Soccer is new to our athletics program this year and, if this first game was any indication, it’s going to be a huge success. Teaching kids to play in a team, counting on team-mates to support and help each other in a common goal, is one of the key priorities of our athletics program. We also want our students to love being active and keeping fit. Below is a commentary written by one of our students that participated in this week’s game and I think it really speaks for itself. I am so proud of everyone that took part in this week’s game and look forward to a great season.
“Today, I experienced what it’s like to be in a soccer tournament and it was super! This was one of the best experiences I ever had and I will remember this day forever.
I passed the ball to my team mates, had a ton of fun, and even scored my first goal!
This all happened because my class and I worked together. I learned what it is like to be part of a great team because without all the passing from one teammate to another, we never would have been so successful. Each one of us was a winner!
This tournament was a time where I could express my talent and try new things and I hope this will happen each time I play any sport.
And this is all thanks to our amazing coach, Nick, who was always there to encourage us and at every gym class would tell the girls, “just because you’re a girl, it doesn’t mean you can’t play”.
This phrase gave me the power to believe that I can do anything.”
